Laikipia Youth Turn Rowdy On Ruto....

Deputy President William Ruto resorted to chasing hecklers from his meeting in Laikipia County on Tuesday, December 7, after a section of the youth turned rowdy.

The meeting started off calmly, with several politicians who accompanied him to Laikipia addressing the youth who turned up in large numbers. As Ruto addressed the crowd, championing for his Bottom-Up economic model, the hecklers interrupted and attempted to cut him off. An altercation ensued between a visibly irked Ruto and the youth who kept disrupting his speech. His efforts to calm the down backfired as the hecklers continued jeering.

The locals could be heard chanting a name of an unidentified political leader.

This forced the DP to accuse the politician who he allegedly sent the youth to interrupt his meeting.

“Stop disrupting my meeting. You have the liberty to organize your own. I will not allow you to come to my gathering to heckle me.
Let us uphold some manners. This is my meeting. Let us respect each other,” Ruto cut his speech short to face them off.
“Go and disrupt your own speakers,” he stated, adding that they were indisciplined and unruly.

Chaos in Kisii as rowdy youths heckle DP Ruto
Wednesday, December 08, 2021

Police in Kisii has arrested four youths who were in a group that heckled Deputy President William Ruto at Itibo market while chanting ODM slogans, with chaotic scenes being witnessed as security officers dispersed the hecklers.

Sameta OCPD Benjamin Rotich said the arrested youths were drunk and disorderly and will Thursday be charged with being rowdy and trying to cause mayhem during the DP’s visit in the county.
Following the arrests, another rowdy group attempted to storm Itibo Police Post to free their colleagues but police dispersed them by firing in the air and using tear gas.

DP Ruto, who seeks to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, returned to Kisii on Wednesday where he held six rallies in five constituencies in a last minute rush to woo residents with financial support before the December 9 deadline on fundraisers.
He used a helicopter to move from one rally to another, unlike in his previous meetings in Kisii where he has been travelling by road within the constituencies in meet-the people tours.
The deputy president was in Kisii by 9am and immediately started his campaigns in Kegogi, Marani Sub-County, the home ground of Kisii Governor James Ongwae, an ODM leader.

After the Kegogi event in Kitutu Chache North where he fundraised for women and boda boda groups, the DP headed to Nyabururu grounds in Kitutu Chache South and held a similar funds drive.
He termed the fundraisers as economic empowerment programmes through his bottom up economic model that is aimed at uplifting the poor.
He later flew to Nyanturago Stadium in Nyaribari Chache Constituency then to Masimba in Nyaribari Masaba and finally Bobasi Constituency where he held fundraisers at Nyamache Stadium and Itibo market.

Following the incident, DP Ruto, in a statement, called for the release of the youths who were arrested, saying that the current top-down model of governance has marginalised the young people who are then used to cause chaos.

“It is no surprise that those driving exclusive top-down model of governance find no place for youth, except to deploy them on retrogressive errands as witnessed in some of our meetings including today’s successful tour of Kisii County,” Dr Ruto said.
He urged the youth to shun divisive activities and political errands which end up marginalising them and setting them up for blame and sanction.
“I invite all youth to seize this moment and come forward to take up their rightful place in this journey to a better Kenya,” he said.

Police in Laikipia County is investigating an incident where Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru is alleged to have physically assaulted a resident during Deputy President William Ruto’s rally to the region on Tuesday.

Kirima Sub-County Police Commander Donald Sailor told the Nation that police were piecing together evidence and reviewing the occurrence of the incident that is reported to have occurred at Sipili trading center.
The police boss said that a woman identified as Lucy Wairimu Kariuki, 28, lodged a complaint with the police at Sipili Police Station claiming to have been assaulted by the lawmaker.

Though the police boss said no decision had been made on the matter, he noted that Ms Waruguru would be summoned to record a statement with the police for commencement of investigations.
“The lady made a complaint with the police on Thursday claiming to have been arrested by the MP. Investigations will be launched with a view of establishing what really transpired,” said Mr Sailor.
Contacted, Ms Kariuki said that the lawmaker ought to be arrested since she had physically assaulted and verbally abused her for allegedly having a differing political opinion.

She said that trouble started when the lawmaker was heckled by residents during the DP’s stopover in Rumuruti town.
“In the next stopover at Sipili, the lawmaker grabbed my hand and with the help of youths who had accompanied her led me to her vehicle. That is where she strangled me and assaulted me,” she said.
Ms Kariuki has since called on security officers to ensure that justice is served to her.
“Politicians are known to use their great wealth and influence to compromise investigations. I am pleading with those investigating the matter to ensure that justice is served to me,” she said.

“What makes politicians believe that they can assault people, harass them, or intimidate them? Our law enforcers must ensure that they do not go unpunished,” said Ms Mary Njeri.
Efforts by the Nation to get a comment on the matter from Ms Waruguru did not bear fruit as calls to her phone went unanswered. Also, there were no replies to text messages sent to her phone.

Frustrated and panicking United Democratic Alliance (UDA) politicians from West Pokot County have launched a verbal onslaught against the area Governor, John Lonyangapuo, over his recent dalliance with former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga. The Deputy President William Ruto-allies alleged that the Governor was determined to auction voters to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader after he attended the Azimio La Umoja National Convention at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on Friday, December 10. The leaders, who spoke at a political rally in the county on the evening of Friday, December 10, argued that Lonyangapuo was guided by personal interest at the expense of the locals who still face a myriad of challenges.

The leaders also asked residents to only vote for United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidates in the upcoming elections as other parties would not address issues affecting the area.

“Some people want to mislead our people because of their personal benefits. They want to take our people to Azimio La Umoja.
We want to tell them that they will go alone because the residents will not follow them,” Sigor Member of Parliament, Peter Lochakapong’, stated.

The MP added that Odinga had not launched any development project in the area when he served in government, stating that it would be impossible to sell him in the area.

His Kapenguria counterpart, Samwel Moroto, who was also present at the event, mocked Odinga’s age saying that he was not fit to serve the country as President.

Lonyangapuo has been at loggerheads with supporters of DP Ruto over his longtime allegiance to the KANU party led by Baringo Senator, Gideon Moi, who is a fierce critic of the DP.

However, the first time governor has ditched KANU and formed Kenya Union Party, an outfit he plans to use to defend his gubernatorial seat.

His move is expected to inflict on the dominance of KANU in its stronghold of West Pokot County, where the party won the gubernatorial and senatorial positions besides other smaller seats.

Ruto’s allies are looking forward to capitalizing on Lonyangapuo’s rift with KANU to clinch all-powerful political positions in the county which has been in the grip of Gideon Moi’s party for the longest time.

Kisii Deputy Governor, Joash Maangi, and a long-time ally of Deputy President William Ruto has dumped the country’s second in command for Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) Raila Odinga. Maangi previously made appearances at Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) events and expressed his support for the DP.

He has, however, been conspicuously missing in these events in the recent past, casting aspersions on whether he still associates himself with the Deputy President or not. Notably, he skipped the Deputy President’s rallies in Nyaribari Masaba, Nyaribari Chache, Bobasi and Itibo Markets in Kisii on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, and opted for the Azimio La Umoja National Convention on Friday, December 10, at the Kasarani Stadium.

Speaking to Standard Digital, Maangi attributed his move to mounting pressure from his constituents, as much as he would have loved to popularize UDA in the region.

“I have always been in ODM. You know what it means to be in ODM party in the Kisii region,” said the Deputy Governor.

Maangi has openly expressed intent in succeeding Governor James Ongwae in the upcoming polls.
The duo was elected for the first time in 2013 and won re-election in 2017 on an ODM ticket.
