Its different for regular citizens. Celebrities make money by projecting a certain persona. So, forbes picks the most newsworthy celebrities and then asks them to disclose their networth with supporting documents. Most of the time, they mail photoshopped documents. A company can grow from zero sales to $500 m sales in 5 years. But it will have to accrue massive debts. Or diluted ownership ( venture capitalists will fund growth in your company in exchange for equity)… Most of forbes valuation of celebrity billionaires never accounts for the loans their companies have.
