Kenya's Covid-19 Cases Cross 1,000 Mark With Highest Cases in 24 Hours

On Wednesday, May 20, Kenya’s confirmed Covid-19 case rose to 1,029 after 66 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
Speaking from Afya House during the daily Covid-19 briefing, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe stated that 30 of the cases were from Mombasa on a day that the country recorded the highest cases in a single day since the first case was reported in early March.
Kagwe announced that Likoni and Changamwe areas in Mombasa County were still the hotspots in the area.
He added that 64 of the cases were Kenyans while two were foreign nationals.

The number of individuals who had recovered from the disease still stands at 358 while the number of those who have succumbed stands at 50.

In response to the spread of the disease in Nairobi and Mombasa, the CS announced an extension of the cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh in Nairobi until Saturday, June 6.

He added that there would also be an extension of the cessation of movement in and out of Old Town Mombasa until June 6, 2020.
“The mosques, eateries are supposed to remain closed and hawking is prohibited until Saturday, June 2020,” Kagwe announced.
