Kanye West is drawing outrage for his latest inflammatory comments, this time about the killing of George Floyd. During a recent interview, the embattled rapper publicly blamed Floyd’s death on fentanyl and dismissed the fact that former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes. The Floyd family is mulling legal action over West’s statement.

Civil rights attorney Lee Merritt, who represented Floyd’s family, acknowledged that while “one cannot defame the dead,” there may be other legal options “for Kanye’s false statements about the manner of [Floyd’s] death.”
“Claiming Floyd died from fentanyl not the brutality established criminally and civilly undermines & diminishes the Floyd family’s fight,” Merritt tweeted.
Merritt told CNN that Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd, reached out to pursue a defamation suit against West; however, that’s not legally possible. The Floyd family could potentially sue for intentional infliction of emotional distress, though.

“I have put together a working team to investigate [West’s] statements and to investigate the source of those statements,” Merritt added.

West spoke about Floyd’s death on a new episode of the Drink Champs podcast. The entrepreneur, who goes by Ye, talked about watching conservative commentator and friend Candace Owens’s new documentary The Greatest Lie Ever Sold: George Floyd and the Rise of BLM.

“I watched the George Floyd documentary that Candace Owens put out. One of the things that his two roommates said was they want a tall guy like me, and the day that he died, he said a prayer for eight minutes,” West said. “They hit [Floyd] with the fentanyl. If you look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that.”

The medical examiner ruled Floyd’s death on May 25, 2020, a homicide that occurred while he was being restrained by police. An autopsy listed Floyd’s cause of death as a “cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression.” The autopsy listed other “significant” conditions, including hypertensive heart disease, fentanyl intoxication, and recent methamphetamine use.

Last year, Chauvin was convicted of second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter and has begun serving 22 1/2 years of a prison sentence. He was also sentenced to 21 years in federal prison for violating Floyd’s civil rights.

It’s been a troubling few weeks for West. The Grammy winner has publicly made multiple antisemitic comments leading to his Twitter and Instagram accounts getting restricted. That seems to have motivated him to agree in principle to buy Parler, the conservative social media platform.

Two weeks ago, West captured headlines when he debuted “White Lives Matter” shirts at his Yeezy show. In the days that followed, West called the Black Lives Matter movement — which gained huge momentum across the country after Floyd’s death — a scam. He’s remained defiant about his beliefs in subsequent interviews, including a headline-making appearance on Tucker Carlson Tonight.

The knee on the neck may not have been the only cause of Floyd’s death. Maybe he had ODd on fentanyl

Adidas said on Tuesday that it is cutting ties with Ye, the artist and fashion designer formerly known as Kanye West, following a series of antisemitic comments made in recent weeks.

Ye’s nearly decade-long partnership with the German sportswear giant helped make the rap superstar a billionaire and vaulted his Yeezy-branded sneakers to a global audience.

Adidas will no longer produce Yeezy products and stop payments to Ye and his companies, according to Adidas, which estimated that the decision is expected to hit its net income by nearly $250 million in 2022.

The company is the latest to isolate Ye in the wake of a string of incendiary remarks, including that slavery was a choice and a leaked interview between Ye and Fox News host Tucker Carlson, in which he said, “I’d prefer my kids knew Chanukah than Kwanzaa, at least it would come with some financial engineering.”

Adidas had been reviewing its partnership with Ye since he wore a “White Lives Matter” shirt at Paris Fashion Week.

The Anti-Defamation League considers the slogan, which has been embraced by white supremacists, a symbol of hate speech.

As the company examined its ties to Ye last week, the ADL asked in a letter, “what more do you need to review?”

Jonathan Greenblatt, who leads the ADL, said in a statement on Tuesday that Adidas’ action “sends a powerful message that antisemitism and bigotry have no place in society.”

Twitter and Instagram suspended Ye earlier this month after making antisemitic posts, including a post on Twitter threatening to go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.”

In response to the social media companies locking down his accounts, Ye announced that he was purchasing the conservative-friendly Twitter knock-off company Parler, in a move that puzzled tech observers. Details of the transaction have yet to be made public.

Adidas moving away from Ye is his latest fallout in the business world since he began unleashing his inflammatory comments.

The Balenciaga fashion house has ended its relationship with him and the Hollywood talent agency Creative Artists Agency also dumped him.

Production studio MRC said on Monday that it is shelving a finished documentary on Ye upon reviewing his recent antisemitic remarks,
“We cannot support any content that amplifies his platform,” company executives said in a statement.

Ye has not responded to the Adidas breakup.

The rapper has said he intends to build his own "Yecosystem," which would include his own factories and retail stores as a way of fully separating himself from the corporate world.

Niko behind kanyee ka west to the end.

Kanye West Shows Up At Skechers Headquarters After Being Dumped By Adidas
The Jewish-owned company confirmed the rapper’s unannounced visit and said it has no plans to ever work with him based on his recent antisemitic remarks.

Kanye West apparently thought that as one shoe company closes a door, another one opens a window.

But that didn’t work out for the rap mogul on Wednesday.

After West, who legally changed his name to Ye, was officially dumped by Adidas on Tuesday over his recent antisemitic remarks, he apparently decided to see if another shoe company might want to work with him instead.

So he made an unannounced visit to the Los Angeles-area headquarters of Skechers shoe company and was promptly kicked out, according to TMZ.

The company confirmed the visit in an official statement and also asserted it had no plans to ever work with the rap mogul.

From the company release:
“Considering Ye was engaged in unauthorized filming, two Skechers executives escorted him and his party from the building after a brief conversation.

“Skechers is not considering and has no intention of working with West. We condemn his recent divisive remarks and do not tolerate antisemitism or any other form of hate speech.

“The Company would like to again stress that West showed up unannounced and uninvited to Skechers corporate offices.”
TMZ noted there’s a pretty good reason why Skechers executives wouldn’t want to work with West: It is owned and operated by a Jewish family.

Forbes reported on Tuesday that Adidas’ deal with West was worth $1.5 billion and without it, he’s only worth $400 million. West was also suspended from Twitter and Instagram for his remarks.

Other businesses that have cut ties with West include JP Morgan, Gap and Vogue.

Kanye West has caused quite a lot of controversy over the past several weeks as his antisemitic rants caused him to lose his massive shoe and apparel deal with Adidas as well as his relationship with both Jaylen Brown and Aaron Donald. But it appears Ye’s actions are now hurting some innocent high school students.

Because of the antisemitic comments from Kanye West, the high school basketball stars from his Donda Academy will be unable to participate in one of the most prestigious high school basketball tournament’s in the country as the Scholastic Play-By-Play Classics has booted Donda Academy from participating in the showcase, according to TMZ Sports.
The decision came as the Scholastic Play-By-Play Classics said that West’s “words and actions violate our values as a company and a country, and what we seek to ensure at all of our events — a spirit of diversity, sportsmanship, inclusion, equity and mutual respect.”
While the tournament does condemn West’s comments, they are sympathetic to the players that will now miss a massive opportunity because of West’s actions.
“While we are firm in our reasoning for this decision, it does not diminish our heartache and regret for Donda’s hardworking athletes who will lose out the most as a result of Kanye’s actions,” the tournament said in a statement to TMZ Sports.
While West appears to be losing supporters left and right, he can still count on the support of Antonio Brown, who announced his continued support of West despite the controversy.

Kanye West’s non-accredited private school Donda Academy abruptly closes

Kanye West’s non-accredited private school in California will close with immediate effect, it told parents on Wednesday, as controversy continues to boil following the rapper’s antisemitic comments.

Parents were notified that Donda Academy would close for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year.

In an email, the principal, Jason Angell, said the decision came “at the discretion of our founder”, according to Hollywood Unlocked.
It added that it plans to “begin afresh in September of 2023”.
Ye, as the rapper is now known, confirmed the news in a deleted tweet to Jason Lee, CEO of Hollywood Unlocked:

“Here’s the clout you’re looking for…My school is being shut down.”

Since it opened in August last year, the $15,000-a-year institution has been largely shrouded in mystery, with the school’s website providing little information on curriculum or faculty.
According to Rolling Stone, it enrolled about 100 students. Those associated with the school were allegedly required to sign non-disclosure agreements.
The school was non-accredited. Classes reportedly included choir and parkour.
The shutdown followed a backlash against Ye after he made several antisemitic comments in recent weeks and promoted clothing with the white supremacist slogan “White Lives Matter” at Paris fashion week.
Several of Ye’s business and fashion associates cut ties with the artist, with Adidas, Balenciaga, Gap, and other companies saying they would no longer work with him. Ye had also been locked out of his social media accounts on Instagram and Twitter.
Vogue, which previously showcased Ye’s fashion ventures, also vowed to not feature him again after he insulted a Black Vogue editor who criticized him for making the “White Lives Matter” shirts. Ye later gave the T-shirts to unhoused people in Los Angeles.
Several high school basketball tournaments had already barred Donda Academy from participating. Invitations to the Play-By-Play Classic in Kentucky and the Hoophall Classic in Massachusetts were rescinded, reported the New York Times.
Play-By-Play Classic organizer Jeremy Treatman said he felt “terrible” about disinviting the team, but added: “I just feel like it was a no-brainer and I just don’t want to be associated with his school right now.”

Kanye West Apologizes for False George Floyd Claims After Losing Adidas

"I know what it feels to have a knee on my neck right now,” rapper told paparazzi of Adidas split and media scrutiny
BY ALTHEA LEGASPI

KANYE WEST SPOKE with paparazzi on Friday night, where he said he did not realize he was being antisemitic and apologized for falsely claiming George Floyd died from fentanyl rather than Floyd suffocating from a police officer putting a knee on his neck, which caused his death.

When the paparazzi confronted West about his antisemitic statements, he said he didn’t realize what he was saying was considered antisemitic and that after having a mediation with Adidas has officially severed ties with the rapper, he came to some realizations and became “humbled.” In his convoluted conversation, where he seemed to be making statements and walking them back simultaneously, he added that “When I see that video as a Black person, it hurts my feelings. And I know that police do attack and America is generally racist,” he said to paparazzi, via HipHopDX. “And I understand that when we got to say, Black Lives Matter, the idea of it made us feel good together as a people, right?”

He added: “So when I questioned the death of George Floyd, it hurt my people,” he continued. “I want to apologize.
Because God has shown me by what Adidas is doing, by what the media is doing, I know how it feels to have a knee on my neck now.
“So thank you God for humbling me and letting me know how it really felt. Because how could the richest Black men ever be humbled other than to be made to not be a billionaire in front of everyone off of one comment.”

Last week, West gave a non-apology for his antisemitic remarks during an interview with Piers Morgan.

Meanwhile, the family of George Floyd is readying a $250 million lawsuit against West for his unfounded claims.

West’s controversial comments have led to a mass exodus of brands and companies that have parted ways with the rapper.

Talent agency giant CAA dropped him this week, and he has been deserted by the likes of Balenciaga, and banking giant JP Morgan Chase.

His total wealth dropped from a reported $2 billion to around $500 million following Adidas severing ties with him.

Adidas execs got so sick of Kanye West they chose to ‘obliterate $2B in annual revenue’ to be rid of him: Bloomberg

An extensive new report from Bloomberg delivers an inside view of the end of the relationship between sportswear manufacturer Adidas and rapper Kanye West.

According to Bloomberg’s sources, Adidas had for months been working to end its partnership with West, who has for years made controversial statements before he erupted into pushing open anti-Semitism last month.

Apparently, Adidas executives were wary about the legal implications involved in dumping West, who has now legally changed his name to Ye, until he left them with little option after his anti-Jewish rants.

“Some of the company’s top executives hesitated because they first wanted to obtain opinions from outside law firms in the US that if Adidas went ahead with the termination of the Ye partnership, it wouldn’t be deemed as an obstruction of an ongoing court mediation process,” Bloomberg writes. “Still others disagreed with that stance, feeling that Ye’s behavior had become so offensive that it merited immediately cutting ties.”

Taking the plunge and axing West also had big financial implications for Adidas, which had been generating an estimated $1.8 billion in annual sales from Yeezy-brand footwear.

Or as Bloomberg reporter Kim Bhasin put it on Twitter, Adidas executives decided to “obliterate $2B in annual revenue” just to be rid of West.

Elon Musk’s Twitter Regime Takes Down Kanye Tweet Within Minutes After Rapper Compares Being Called Anti-Semitic to N-Word
Zachary Leeman - 3h ago

Kanye West may be back on Twitter, but he’s already getting policed on the platform, which was recently purchased by Elon Musk.

A Friday tweet in which West, who now goes by Ye, compared being called “anti-Semitic” to being referred to as the n-word was taken down within minutes.

Ye’s tweet was repeating a line from another user, and it was taken down for violating the social media platform’s rules. Mediaite captured a screenshot of the tweet:

Ye tweeted after that message, so he appears to still have access to his account. He was originally booted from the platform for an anti-Semitic message last month. He’s since seen a major deal with Adidas fall apart over his troubling statements. Ye announced after being suspended from Twitter that he is purchasing Parler, a conservative social media platform.
Since taking over Twitter, Musk has put forth some substantial changes, including massive layoffs. Musk’s relationship to Ye and past comments about not believing in lifetime bans from social media has fueled speculation that the Tesla founder will roll back content moderation on the platform.

On top of taking down the Ye tweet, however, Twitter also provided “important context” to a tweet from the White House that said Social Security payments were being raised thanks to President Joe Biden’s leadership. The increases are actually automatic and have existed for decades. They are a response to current inflation. The White House ended up deleting the tweet.
Musk claimed in a Friday tweet that “nothing has changed with content moderation” at the platform, despite concerns and pressure from “activist groups.”
“Twitter has had a massive drop in revenue, due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists,” he wrote.
