The iron dome is meant to prevent short range , non complex projectiles like the rockets fired by Hamas,
For long range missiles and icbms nations like Israel , Russia, US,china etc have missile defense systems meant to track such incoming threats from a longer range and intercept them.
For such missiles like the ICBMs the iron dome will not work and it was not designed for such.
Also the complex missile defense systems like the Patriot, Arrow and the famous russian S400 systems will be in-effective against rocket projectiles fired by Hamas.
The Iron dome is a special kind, i think its the only kind deployed by a nation against such threats. Not because other nations cannot develop, but because its only Israel that is facing such a problem.
Also the Iron Dome is not 100% effective against all missiles, but it intercepts most of them.
It has a breaking point where it can be over-whelmed by a huge number of missiles, and that is one thing Hamas has been trying to test by launching a huge number of their missiles.
How do you know this? None has ever been deployed in actual war for us to gauge their accuracy. What you are relying on is just specifications. All countries usually hype the capability of their weapon systems as a deterrent.
Its 90% effective. When Hamas send those projectiles, they send them en mass. The detection system gets vibrating noise signals and misses some. No defense system is 100% effective.
