ER doc commits suicide, shaken by coronavirus onslaught

The head of the emergency department at a Manhattan hospital committed suicide after spending days on the front lines of the coronavirus battle, her family said Monday.
“She tried to do her job, and it killed her,” Dr. Philip Breen told the New York Times of his physician daughter, Lorna Breen, who had been the medical director of the NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital amid the pandemic.

The father said his 49-year-old daughter, who died Sunday, had no history of mental illness. But he said that the last time they spoke, she told him how excruciating it was to have to continually watch contagion patients die, including some even before they could be taken from the ambulance.
“She was truly in the trenches on the front line,” Philip Breen told the Times.
“Make sure she’s praised as a hero,” he added. “She’s a casualty just as much as anyone else who has died.”
Lorna Breen died in Charlottesville, Va., where she’d been staying with her family, the father said.
He said she had gotten sick with the virus while on the job at one point but returned to work after about a week and a half of recuperating. Still, the hospital sent her home again, and her family brought her to Virginia.
Two days before the doctor’s suicide, a city EMT also toiling on the front lines of the city’s battle against the virus took his own life.
Rookie paramedic John Mondello, 23, used a gun registered to his father, a retired NYPD cop, to kill himself along a river wall on Shore Boulevard in Astoria, Queens, on Friday, police sources told The Post at the time.
He graduated from the Fire Department’s EMS Academy in early February, then headed straight to EMS Station 18 in Claremont in The Bronx — which handles one of the biggest 911 call volumes in the city.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s phone number is 1-800-273-8255.

I don’t understand. I have scanned for the name Trump and of how he committed this egregious travesty but I found nothing. You are not making any sense.

Oh I see it. Gun registered to his father = gun violence = mass shootings = NRA = triggered white conservatives = Trump

Pray for purple

@Purple is fine. Where she works things are fine. Does she have any Kenyan family members in that area, do you think?

You really get triggered when murica gets poked in the nerves, making it sound conspiratory from the person making statement. What’s the big deal when one kills themselves with their parents boomstick? I know!!! Its project MKUltra:D:D:D.mambo patricia?

Prayers are always a good thing. She must have been facing underlying mental issues unrelated to Kungflu. MHSRIP.

The Manhattan ER doctor who killed herself after serving on the front lines of the coronavirus battle was especially distraught because she’d gotten the contagion and eventually returned to work — only to be told to go back home, a close pal told The Post.
“She got the virus and came back to work too soon — they said to her she wasn’t well enough to go back to work. It broke her,” the friend said of Dr. Lorna Breen, who had been the medical director of the emergency department at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital.
Breen, 49, took her own life Sunday while staying with family in Charlottesville, Va.
Asked if Breen was the type of person to be depressed, The Post source, an emergency room nurse at the hospital, replied, “No.
“She cracked under the stress,” of dealing with the pandemic day after day, the pal said.
“The staff is hysterical and feels demoralized. They can’t believe it. She was a leader and had a dynamic personality … a great person, colleague, and friend,” her co-worker said.
“The stress here is making everyone crazy.”
Meanwhile, other friends and colleagues struggled to make sense of Breen’s passing
“Will miss you forever, Lorna,” Dr. Rich Weiss wrote on Facebook. “You were a true friend and a compassionate warrior. Safe travels.”
Paris Lovett, who is an emergency physician, hailed her as a “great” doctor, sharing a photo of himself with a beaming Breen.
“Lorna Breen – a great emergency physician, great person, and a great friend. I will miss you so much,” he wrote on Facebook.
Responding to the touching tribute, Dr. Liz Edelstein responded, saying, “She was a class act top human gem. And that smile, that always made you so happy to see her.”
Lovett replied, “Couldn’t agree more. It’s unfathomable.”
Nina Ng, an assistant director of nursing at Northwell Health, shared a photo of Breen laughing with a group around a table.
“Remembering Dr. Lorna Breen. R.I.P.,” she wrote on Facebook.
NewYork-Presbyterian did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

All that beauty and intellect gone to waste. MHSRIP

You’ll overcome. I guess you aren’t anywhere near the Big Apple?

Thanks, I’m not that close to NYC.

Alright. All the best.
As they say, this too will pass.

stay safe Purple .we all love you

We are extremely proud of our frontline staff. Think about it as being at war and they have to take the hit for us. They were honoured here bigtime, will find some clips. We all had to step outside and clap. So many have lost their lives in their line of duty. This thing is not a joke. When we are told to stay at home we have to adhere to what the drs are telling us as they work round the clock to find a vaccine and a cure.
And we can only support them by praying that it happens as soon as possible.

Pole sana.
Still, your Kagwe should be in jail for having made sure Beijing’s will prevailed and it beats logic that some kneegrows reserve him as a hero of some sorts.

If you don’t believe in God, life on earth can become very meaningless and unbearable especially in the face of death. RIP.

Maybe she witnessed all the murders of the blacks and latino patients and could not live with that.

Sasa kama kazi imekushinda si uwache! Why did she have to kill herself? Why do people rush to kill themselves without exploring all the possible alternatives to end their suffering. Seriously she felt it was easier to kill herself than to resign her job?

How’s this our problem? If she couldn’t handle being in the hospital she should have quit and started a business knitting sweaters or baking cookies.
