Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana is a victim of a get-rich-quick scam where he lost Ksh76 million in 2013.
The money was accumulated from his sale of shares, property, and high-end cars.

Mungatana who had initially benefited from the scam trusted the foreigner believed to be from West Africa.
He initially took up loans to invest with the foreigner who promised to increase his wealth.
“I first gave out Ksh500,000 to the accused and he gave me Ksh1 million back. I later gave him Ksh5 million and was given Ksh10 million after six months as promised. I was very happy when I was told there’s another opportunity to invest,” the politician stated.
Narrating to the court on Thursday, October 6, the lawmaker demanded the court take action on the culprit who he said vanished with his money in their subsequent arrangement.

Mungatana was reportedly introduced to the accused through a friend who had promised to invest the money.
The politician painfully recalled selling his properties, shares in his name and that of his late wife’s name, and taking bank loans only to lose it all.
“From owning a home to renting and living without a car. My everything disappeared. It was a bad time,” he complained.
Interestingly the former Garsen constituency MP was lured by the lavish and classy lifestyle of the foreigner…’ never suspected that it would go wrong.
When you go to his place, you will see many vehicles and the palatial home has men watching over him, he received kingly treatment," he recounted.
Additionally, the culprit was accused of working with his sons and other people to con unsuspecting individuals.
“I lost everything, He made a mockery of my own savings. These foreigners are conning a lot of Kenyans,” the senator lamented.
The cases of get-rich-quick scams have been on the rise in the country with thousands of Kenyans losing their hard-earned money to such schemes.
In September 2022, Rongai Town residents raised an alarm after a fake investor disappeared with their funds.
The victims claimed that they were promised five times the amount they deposited.
