You’re looking at the wrong place. Dont bother with the garbage that is mainstream it has long been infected by filth such as young thug and his gay minions. There are still some gems, like this guy Tobe. If an oldhead like Paul wall can acknowledge you then you on the right path

IMO things went south for hip hop when “rappers” like Soulja Boy became popular. That’s when rap became a gimmick. It was no longer about lyricism, just the image of being a rapper. This influenced the current soundcloud mumble rap generation who just repeat heavily autotuned verses (Lil Pump, Lil Yachty, Migos etc). Good hip hop is still out there but don’t expect mainstream labels to put it in your lap. They are interested in profit not artistic expression.

actually started the downfall when biggie released hypnotize… it started going downhill from there,

There are plenty of rappers nowadays who represent old school hip hop, but they aren’t so popular as the singers and musician of modern hip hop actually. I believe that today hip hop industry cardinally changed and its affection on mass is very high. For example, you can listen to j.cole, he has a great lyric in his songs and great rhymes too. He reminds me of oldschool hip hop a little bit. In my opinion, it doesn’t even matter what kind ofm usic you listen to, whether it’s an old hip hop or modern one. The main is to be loyal to your genre and rememebr about those singers who have already passed away.
