Cost of living crisis

Someone once said that ‘300k net is a good salary.’ It’s not. That used to be the case 10 years ago. Many people who supposedly earn ‘well’ are finding themselves caught up in an endless cycle of debt and despair and they can’t figure out why.

It is because what used to be a good salary back then isn’t anymore. Except for very few people, income has not kept pace with the skyrocketing cost of living. Now instead of coming up with workable solutions, the only answer being offered is how to cut spending and of course shaming people to accept a life of living in want. It’s a race to the bottom. Why are companies shortchanging people at a time when executive and politicians pay has outstripped every metric of common sense? That’s the problem in a nutshell. In a dollar-denominated, global economy (we buy fuel in dollars), the cost of living is almost the same worldwide because it’s closely tied to the cost of energy which is only going up. At the same time, currency depreciation is hampering our ability to save for the future. The only country which has such successfully subsidized COL is India because they have a trifecta of high population, low taxes and lax regulations. It’s high time people put their employers to task by demanding higher pay.
End of rant.

Well said…
Niliuliza swali tu venye nili land vumbistan…how are matatu operators drivers and conductors surviving with the fares i left in June 2022???i guess it’s the same for all Kenyans…shit is hitting the fan at an alarming rate…lakini politicians bado wanaambia watu wakule keki:mad:

:D:D:D employer atatoa wapi pesa?

Huwezi kaa place moja tu hivo.

Back to OP’s rant, 300k mtu ni ajipange and even start a business sio kukaa tu waiting for salary increment.

That’s their problem to figure out. Capitalists are like heroin addicts when it comes to accumulating obscene wealth. It’s never enough and they will never do what is right for the people so you take the fight to them. You withhold your labor, stop buying their goods, nationwide strikes, civic disobedience like refusing to pay taxes and so on.

Sikuwa nakumbuka bazu mwenyewe yuko kwa i biashara:Dapo kwa malaya kuwasaidia kukula ungewapatia mawaitha

It’s a race to the bottom. People who could comfortably afford academies have to contend with taking their children to public schools, move to cheaper housing, park their jalopies at home and take matatus. Yet the rich keep getting richer. The rich politicians have not made any sacrifices to their lifestyles and hell will freeze over twice before they make any adjustments. I don’t know how those who were poor during the good times are surviving right now. Where do they go? Worser slums?

ile ngeta itatembea nairobi mtaitana

I definitely feel you Elder…you have raised a genuine point what are the people who were already at the bottom people who can’t downgrade doing and where are they…and when the hell will the politicians take their heads out of their asses and see this is untenable yani Kenya venye iko saa I ni ticking time bomb

Mwanaume hukomaa ile siku hujua all cats are grey in dark otherwise huwezi mwambia kitu.

300k is a lot of money by Kenyan standards and even thrice more if you stay in a country like UG. Hata 70yrs old professors don’t earn that much, this kind salary is earned by those in short term contracts. That is 3.6m per year and you are capable of comfortably saving 3m per year without much effort, in ten year that should about 30+m pure saving…That is an apartment. If you earn that kind of money for ten years you should be making more money from you investments than your salary.

Jana nilikuwa na beste yangu MP, tukajadiliana mambo kadha, alinisho every leader is there to make his/her life better, hajali mwananchi wa kawaida. Ni yeye na familia yake.

No offense but the word ‘kujipanga’ needs to end unless you’re a billionaire living off of interest. Hatujipangi! Seriously, everyone deserves to rest well, comfortable in the security of their employment like the rich politicians do.

ungemwambia mkenya wa kawaida ako na machungu na anawaona na ako karibu kufika breaking point

The world was not designed for man to enjoy. Jipange, even the rich employer alijipanga and owes you nothing. Alijua wewe ndio utamfanyia kazi and improve his lifestyle. Ukitoka/ukiringa another hungry man will take your position. It’s all about survival. Ukizubaa you are eliminated ni kama game.

Alinisho kuna mikakati swafi but will take time. Ruto anaweza, ninaanza kuamini anaweza. Yuko na plans

My bro huwa at top of the game, hatambui change of regimes, ako ndaaaani kila wakati. kama saii kama msee hawezi ji align poa na hasora, you are so done for. Hata ma Mp wanapigana kama sisi tu, not easy to access hasora kama huna kakitu. People around him cant let you umkaribie juu uta wa displace.

We have already said that it is no longer a lot of money even by Kenyan standards. You expect someone to be earning that same amount (because it is ‘alot’) even in 10 years time with a fixed monthly expense of 50k per month? Ten years from now?? Know your worth bro.

You are more powerful than you think. Ubaya ni individualistic mindset. We need stronger labor protections and unions to shake things up.

Competition imekuwa stiff kila mahali. People want not to survive but thrive.

Omuafrika amesoma hii rant , all he heard was “ibia patel hadi amee akili”. I’d do the same if i was employed and relying on salary
