Building a wooden house

I would like to build something semi permanent by myself. I consider myself good with tools , I do my own plumbing and electrical stuff in my house (built in the 80s, simple with lots of exposed wiring channels and pipes) and I have a lot of time on my hands. Exact location is Kabungut, Bomet, so the climate is a weird cross between highland and arid. How hard can it be? Anyone done anything like this?

The idea is close to this but wood sides, not mabati.

Those figures dont add up!!!

Build for life wacha kujenga vitu za kubomoa later on… Tafuta ata kama ni matofali with good mortar. Ata kama ni one room at a time with gables at each end so you can keep adding to the building kama classroom. Finish room to completion and repeat. Wood kwanza ni expe my guy afadhali mawe (dunno about conditions kwa grao huko but I think this is a fairly accurate generalisation) plus it will be more secure and keep out the elements better

Yes, visited an uncle with a wooden house there, the bottom part was stone and the top was wood. Looked like :meffi:! This project has been abandoned, doesn’t make sense. There are also possibilities of wood rot at the base since it rains a lot in the area (Bomet)

 hizo kwanza ni balaa, guys transitioned ata to two or three bottom courses of stone then thereafter mabati smart kama za MRM covermax or like maisha aluzinc with box profile. Kama una mbio basi afadhali hiyo… They are very neat when well done and can be put up quickly ata wewe na ma bro /cuzo… Bora metrics na trigonometry hamkua usingizi hae skulu

What about that all important issue called security?

Depending on the way you have described yourself, it’s you who should be telling us how hard it can be

Voiyooo…Mbao za kutosha utatoa wapi…ama wewe ni mmoja wa Mau Forest beneficiaries

Jenga kitu kama hii basi

Trees are everywhere ocha, there’s a small tree plantation for preventing runoff at the base of the farm. The house would be done in a week, I’ve seen my neighbours do it. It will cost 6k to fell the trees and a little bit more for lumbering. Things like offcuts I can sell to the tea factory. Ikibaki excess nauza

fire risks are higher kwa wooden houses

a lot of razed down houses I’ve seen have almost always been wooden. weird connection but still

Wooden houses are cheaper and they are faster to build in the USA. They require cheaper materials and less skilled labor. In this way, people in the US are able to get larger homes than they might get had they been constructed entirely of masonry.

In general, I believe brick homes are seen as a superior in the US, but for many, they are not worth the extra expense. It is worth noting that many higher end homes built in the USA are constructed of brick. In nearly all cases, the brick on a modern home in the US is simple a facade material, it is rarely used a structural system.

In countries where wood is more scarce, it may not be true that wood is cheaper than masonry.
