Being Black's A Pain Even When Ur Rich.....

*Sean “Diddy” Combs is taking Diageo to court, accusing the British multinational spirits company of not financially backing his DeLeón tequila brand it co-owns with the music mogul and entrepreneur. Combs charges Diageo with racial discrimination; the lawsuit, filed on Wednesday in New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan, states the company categorized DeLeón as “urban” and described it as a “Black brand,” reports the WSJ.

Instead, Combs claims that Diageo commercially spearheaded two other tequilas, including Casamigos, the George Clooney-backed brand that Diageo agreed to purchase in 2017 at a $1 billion valuation. Diageo denies the hip-hop star’s assertions and issued a statement.

“This is a business dispute, and we are saddened that Mr. Combs has chosen to recast this matter as anything other than that,” a company spokeswoman said to WSJ. “Our steadfast commitment to diversity within our company and the communities we serve is something we take very seriously.”

Combs’ lawyers want a court injunction to enforce the 2013 joint-venture agreement and “subsequent written agreements between Combs and Diageo that the partners signed to resolve complaints by Combs,” according to the court filing.

Combs’ legal team also added to the complaint that Diageo and its executives placed “their feet on the neck of Mr. Combs’ brands,” cutting off production, distribution, and sales of Combs Wines and Spirits brands, Ciroc vodka and the high-end tequila brand DeLeón, and are seeking “billions of dollars in damages due to Diageo’s neglect and breaches” in a separate lawsuit, reports The Guardian.

Tumia akili. Would you want to do business with a rapper? This has nothing to do with racism. Most people prefer having professional business partners and in this case, a Hollywood actor like George Clooney is more of a safe bet than a rapper who uses “bitch”, “nigga” and other terms in his music.

Playing the race card is actually a smart move by P-Diddy. Even I would play it given the chance but we all know that this has nothing to do with race.

Anyway, who’s the real business hero here?..

According to Celebrity Net Worth, George Clooney’s net worth is an incredible $500 million. Clooney has amassed his half-a-billion dollars …
He is 62 years old…And 53-year-old P Diddy’s net worth is estimated to be $900 Million.

I like this defeatist ending…

Okay buddy. Good luck trying to sell your product to the likes of James Mwangi and Evans Kidero when you have octopizzo for a brand ambassador. You won’t sell!

It’s that simple. I just used the Kenyan context to get your little brain working. Stupid Africans like yourself think everything is about race. What a clown!

Stop saying stupid things on a holy day.

Diageo North America Inc. said it is breaking off its business relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs after the music mogul accused the world’s biggest spirits maker of racism in neglecting his liquor brands.

Diageo made the announcement in a Tuesday court filing responding to Combs’s lawsuit last month, which accused the company of racial bias in failing to adequately promote his Ciroc Vodka and DeLeón Tequila brands. Diageo asked the judge in the case to force Combs’s claims into arbitration or dismiss the case.

“Diageo is profoundly disappointed that Sean Combs, an entertainer and entrepreneur who has amassed nearly one billion dollars from a fifteen-year relationship with Diageo, has caused this bad faith, sham action to be improperly brought before this Court,” Diageo said in the Manhattan federal court filing.

“Diageo attempting to end its deals with Mr. Combs is like firing a whistleblower who calls out racism,” his lawyer, John Hueston, said in a statement. “It’s a cynical and transparent attempt to distract from multiple allegations of discrimination.”

Combs claimed in his suit that Diageo paid lip service to promote diversity in its business relationships while failing to adequately promote his brands. As evidence of bias, he pointed in his suit to the company’s $1 billion acquisition and marketing of the Casamigos tequila brand partly founded by actor George Clooney.

Diageo said in its court filing that it was Combs who failed to support his brands, putting only $1,000 into the joint venture while the company invested $100 million.

“The Combs parties’ failure to fund the JV created a contentious relationship, severely damaged the DeLeón brand at a critical juncture, and stalled its promise and potential for growth for several years,” Diageo said.

A Diageo spokesperson said the brands will continue to be sold while both sides fight over the end of their relationship.

The case is Combs Wines and Spirits LLC v. Diageo North America Inc., 652517/2023, New York State Supreme Court, New York County (Manhattan).

Texas A&M reaches $1 million settlement with journalism professor

Texas A&M University reached a $1 million settlement with a journalism professor whose hiring was botched following backlash regarding her diversity work.

Texas A&M officials released an internal investigation Thursday that apologized for how the hiring was handled and stated that “mistakes were made during the hiring process.”

Kathleen McElroy, a former New York Times editor and professor of journalism at the University of Texas at Austin, accepted a tenure-track position to lead Texas A&M’s journalism program. After a signing ceremony in June and public criticism of McElroy’s work to diversify newsrooms, the university changed the offer from tenure-track to a five-year contract and later to a one-year contract.

McElroy, who is a Black woman from Houston, declined the offer and spoke to the Texas Tribune about her hiring experience, stating that she was caught up in the “DEI hysteria.”

DEI, short for diversity, equity and inclusion, has been in the spotlight since the Texas Legislature passed a bill that aims to eliminate DEI offices and programs from the state’s colleges and universities.

Critics often refer to DEI as a “woke” ideology that favors race over merit and that threatens free speech by compelling people to think the same way.

Supporters of DEI disagree with that interpretation, arguing that the programs focus on fostering inclusive environments for those who have been historically excluded.

The Texas A&M investigation released Thursday revealed that six Board of Regent members were some of the university officials who questioned McElroy’s hiring after conservative websites wrote about the professor’s history engaging in diversity work.

Students and alumni called the university, “raising questions about why a DEI proponent would be hired to serve as director of the new journalism program,” according to the investigation.

The university and McElroy released a joint statement announcing the settlement. “I hope the resolution of my matter will reinforce A&M’s allegiance to excellence in higher education and its commitment to academic freedom and journalism,” McElroy said.

McElroy, who is a Texas A&M alum, will remain in her position as a journalism professor at the University of Texas.
