If we had a well meaning government people would traveling by air for $20 to Kakamega

Why the govt? What should the govt do to make air travel to Kakamega 20 USD?

Hii ni bus wewe ng’ombe

Nguruwe mjinga niaje

Upus…

By reducing taxes. These are the levies an airline pays

Landing charges
Parking charges
Aircraft handling charges
Air navigation charges
En-route charges
Boarding bridge charges
Fuel charges
Passenger service charge.

Sasa ticket itakua aje 2000 kama passenger service charge serikali inachukua almost 800 for every ticket

Hata kama huna gari, watu wa personal ni wengi, huwezi kosa mtu. Na kuna car hire pia.

Landing charges are levied by the airport management. And KAA managed airports are ridiculously cheap to land at.
Parking charges too.
Aircraft handling charges are levied by private companies that provide the handling and it is ridiculously cheap in Kenya.
Air navigation charges in Kenya are too cheap to even count.
En-route charges ni gani?
Boarding bridge charges are private entrepreneur charges na sio lazima. If you want a cheap flight you can book one where you walk to the aircraft and board through stairs.

Kitu ya maana umesema ni fuel charges. But AV- Gas is still ridiculously cheap in Kenya compared to almost any other country

It’s the airliners that overcharge. And you can’t blame them. Aviation is all about volumes. Ryanair is dirt cheap because they push so much volume, they could as well be transporting cattle to the slaughterhouse.

Passengerservice charge sijui ni gani. But the rest nazijua inside out. Landing charge is levied according to the weight of the aircraft and it is negligible. Parking charge too. These are both charged by whoever manages each airport. There’s nothing stopping airliners from taking over a private airstrip and dictating how much they’ll pay. Ryanair does this all the time.
Air craft handling charges ni biashara ya makampuni private kama NAS.
Boarding Bridge charges pia ni entrepreneurial service na sio lazima.
Air navigation charges by KCAA are negligible.

Najua watu wengi watakwamilia kwa fuel. But here is the interesting bit. AV Gas is ridiculously cheap in Kenya. AV gas is an airliners most significant expense (the rest are negligible). There was a time it was nearly 3 times more expensive in Germany than in Kenya (80 ksh per litre vs more than 200 ksh equivalent per litre). Yet I could fly from Dusseldorf to Manchester for 2000ksh equivalent but can’t from Nairobi to Kakamega. Every other charge is also more in Germany mind you.

It’s a question of numbers. Aviation is a numbers game.

Don’t confuse AV Gas with 100 LL. AV Gas is more like Kerosene (but cheaper since it is sold in higher volumes). 100 LL is more like diesel but more expensive since it is sold in lower volumes, and needs much higher octane values. 100 LL is damn expensive in Kenya. But that affects private travel, not public travel. The number of Kenyans who will fly in an aircraft that uses 100 LL is insignificant statistically.

Hadi furniture juu ya bus. Vitanda. couches. Kabati

Hii bus ikishika moto…

Fees and charges are 30% of airfare. That’s steep

Poa sana mwizi. Umengeta wangapi leo?

Matunda bus . Utapatana na Kina @uwesmake wamebeba kobe na chura waliachiwa na mababu zao huko
